Born in Chicago, Illinois, Chip E. attended St. Ignatius College Prep, Kenwood Academy, Columbia College and DePaul University. He started spinning records in 1982 and by 1984 he was producing records. In 1985 Street Mix magazine declared Chip E. as the "Godfather of House Music."
That term my friends is up for debate. Larry Heard (aka Mr. Fingers, Fingers Inc.) and Frankie Knuckles, among others, can claim honor to that title as well. Mr. Todd Terry is another one that comes to mind. He appears in this set under one of his many aliases, Royal House.
